I gotta throw my hat into this.

I remember back in the day, close to 10 years ago, being part of one of my foundational ship fandoms and having fandom friends.

One of my friends posted a lovely little one-shot for the ship. This was during the dying days of LJ/DW groups being a hub for organizing and gathering. I was part of the IRC chats and regularly communicated with this person.

One day, they stopped talking. They deleted most of their presence online, including requesting their fic posts to be taken down. They mostly disappeared.

I found them and asked what had happened, and here's the gist of what they told me:

A group of rival ship enjoyers (this was at the start of an extensive and all-encompassing shipwar that eventually led to most of my fandom friends including myself quitting the fandom entirely) had gone through their fics and commented multiple times on several that the ship in question was 1.) bad, 2.) immoral, 3.) nonsensical, and 4.) stupid. Several commenters, ostensibly trying to be kind, said that this writer's talent was being wasted on this ship and that these fics would've been much improved if my friend would rewrite them for this rival ship instead (my friend Did Not Ship It and was very much disinterested.) The comments had started off as a trickle on that fic I mentioned at the start, and then over the course of a couple months became so unbearable that this writer wiped their presence online to escape it. They said their love of that ship had been tainted, and thinking about it gave them panic attacks. They were sorry that they'd effectively taken their ball and gone home in regard to their beloved fic, but they just couldn't take it anymore.

I was saddened by this but of course didn't hold it against them, because I am literally a lifelong bullying victim (it continues to this day IRL) and I know as well as any other weird kid who had the misfortune to grow up ostracized by my peers that the only way to stop this treatment is to cut yourself off from your tormentors.

Flaming is bullying, and if you don't want your fandom to dry up and die like an unwatered houseplant, you fucking nip that shit in the bud when you see it. Take advantage of moderation tools on sites like AO3. Be mean back. These people will have to learn by being shut out of the fun spaces and refused engagement on their nastiness. They learned in schoolyards that this is a great way to either get a response or remove an easily ignored annoyance, and frankly I'm sick of this childish behavior permeating adult spaces.

You want to behave like a tar pit in a place where people find joy and acceptance? I'm going to treat you like a tar pit. And you won't like it.

I wanna know where people have lately gotten the audacity to leave comments on fanfics talking about how much the fanfic sucked and negatively critiquing an author's fic like it's a published book review.

It pisses me off cause I've seen authors abandoned or delete their fics because of this.

You're getting fanfics for FREE! No one asked for your opinion.

I hope y'all know as authors we get email notifications when you comment so we see EVERY comment that's been left.

Nomad Rates Cosmere Planets

As requested by @endervexer :)

Nomad is always on the move--but if he had time to stop and rate Cosmere planets as if they were hotels (you know, rating how clean they are, what the accommodations are like, etc), what would those ratings look like?

1. Canticle (The Sunlit Man)

Place was pretty clean, as the ever-present burning of the sun constantly purified the land.

Food was mediocre. Needed spice.

Accommodations were pretty old and worn down, but clean.

People were polite but not overly friendly, which I count as a positive. Some of them tried to kill me, which I count as a negative.

Entertainment consisted of gladiatorial fights and/or public executions. You can also hear stories. The stories are about ghosts.

BTW, place is haunted.

Overall, 2/5.

2. First of the Sun (Sixth of the Dusk)

Note: I only had time to visit part of this planet. Specifically, the island jungle part.

I would not call it "clean." It is a jungle. It is full of death.

If you like your food fresh-caught and cooked over a fire, you will like the food here. I did not try much of the food, because I was mostly fleeing death.

Accommodations were sparse, unpleasant, and--you guessed it!--not very safe from death.

The people tended to be distrustful and prickly. I did not hold this against them. I was only there briefly, and I was prickly too.

Entertainment was mostly hunting and camping. Although I would not class it as "entertainment" as much as "necessary survival."

NOT an island vacation. 1/5 stars (one star because the chickens there were pretty)

3. Lumar (Tress of the Emerald Sea)

For a place in which water brings death, it was actually pretty clean. Not sparking, but clean enough.

I did not like the food much. Bland. Their sea chickens do not taste as good as land chickens, IMO.

Since most of planet seems to be oceans (NOT water-based), you will find yourself staying on ships if you stay on this planet. What do you want me to say? It's a ship. Even if you have a private cabin, it will be small. It was fine.

People were on the whole friendly but seemed unused to visitors. I don't think this spot is very popular.

Interesting place to sightsee. The oceans are all different colors. The lunagrees (moon aether waterfalls) are worth seeing.

Overall, 3/5

4. Nalthis (Warbreaker)

Planet was generally well kept up--dirty in the way that populated cities or vast snowy landscapes full of woods can be dirty, but nothing major.

Great if you like seafood. Worth seeking out ethnic neighborhoods within the big cities for better food.

Some parts of the planet have better accommodations than others. If you want to stay in a cabin and feel cold and depressed all the time, try Idris. If you want to be a warmer place and like seafood and way too much color, try Hallandren.

If you want culture & stuff to do, try Hallandren. We're talking sports, art, music, creepy statues, pretty much anything you can think of. I cannot emphasize enough that it too colorful though.

This place will take your breath away (just a little Nalthian humor).

4/5 I had to soak my eyes after.

5. Scadrial (Mistborn)

Saw lots of reviewers saying that planet is the dirtiest place they've ever been, what with the constant rain of deadly ash.

Not my experience. Place was admittedly dusty in a "we love our cowboy aesthetic" kind of way, but they've clearly cleaned up since some of those earlier reviews.

Food was okay, but this seems to be more a place you go to drink. If you like whiskey, you will like Scadrial. Yeah I saw the review saying people drink perfume. Can't verify. Didn't see that.

Lots of places to stay, many of which are pleasant enough. If you happen to be speeding through the planet in fear of your life and the life of everyone you've ever cared about, then you'll be happy to hear that your options are many: horses, cars, trains, magic.

(I will ding them for their idiotic train system. Sometimes people don't WANT to go through the center on every trip.)

Entertainment options I saw: ride trains, see giraffes, drink, visit fast-food places, drink, visit the Field of Rebirth, shoot guns, drink.

4/5 I'm just not that into cowboys

6. Sel (Elantris)

Cleanliness varied from "sparkling silver city of the gods" to "battlefield awash in the blood of innocents." Definitely not the dirtiest place I've ever stayed.

Food was a highlight. You can get good spice here. Sweet things are also available for women/ardents.

On the whole, accommodations are solid. Good infrastructure, no weather actively trying to kill you, some places on planet not currently at war.

People can be aggressively religious, but if you avoid people in red armor, it's fine.

For entertainment, I can recommend sightseeing--go see the city of Elantris. It's worth it. Note: reviews complaining about zombies and sludge are old. Always check the date on reviews.

Overall 4/5

7. Taldain (White Sand)

The place has too much sand to be clean. I'm sorry but it has to be said.

The place has too much sand to have good food. I feel like it was always slightly...crunchy.

The accommodations are fine if you like sand.

The people always seem to be subtly wanting to prove that they're better than you. Sometimes it is not subtle. I guess this is what happens when Autonomy is in charge.

If you want entertainment, try the Darkside.

Overall, 2/5 just not my favorite place.

8. Threnody (Shadows for Silence)

Place is quite clean.

Food is bland again. You cannot trust Threnodites to have good food.

Oh, also the place is full of ghosts who will murder you.

9. Komashi (Yumi and the Nightmare Painter)

Can verify that place is no longer infested by deadly nightmares seeking your death. Travelers no longer need to seek out the few pockets of warmth and light in the sea of encroaching darkness. It's a pretty normal planet now.

Food is pretty good. Ramen place in Kilahito (Noodle Princess) is a highlight.

Good accommodations, tech-wise. Heating, lighting, hion-viewers. If you need that stuff to feel comfortable, not a bad place to visit.

If you're not actively on the run, there is plenty to do, from watching your shows to attending local festivals or art installations, to star gazing.

Pleasant place, these days. 5/5

10. Roshar

Note: I'm from here so my review may be biased.

Can't say planet is very clean. It's always at war, and the rain is full of crem.

Food varies. Soulcast food is not very good. Non-soulcast homemade food is great! (Most food is soulcast.)

Accommodations matter--try to stay in a building that is sturdy on both the east & the west side because the storms here do want to kill you. That is not entirely a metaphor. Are the accommodations nice? I mean, they're fine.

There is a lot to do here if you like war. There is a lot of war.

5/5 This place sucks and I miss it a lot.

— ¿How the heck did Red and Zim start having their first feelings for each other? I'm intrigued.

I didn't want to answer your question earlier 'cause I was determined to write a whole bible about how RaZR works in my AU, but I was also hesitating because I always get embarrased whenever I talk about my otps in general.

I was also still discussing with myself if I should put this ship in the story or not, because I know about certain people not being confortable with ships in this AU and because I don't want my AU to be involved with people who just follows the story only 'cause their fav ship is there. I already had a bad experience with those kind of people with another fandom.

But at the same time; RaZR might not be a rare ship, but a quite underrated one that doesn't have a lot of content to dig in comparing it with other big ships that we already know. Also, when I said that I don't want shipping involved in my AU, I was specifically referring to ZaDR. Despite I like it, it is STUPIDLY overrated, to the point that it gets a little exhausting to see it everywhere in the fandom... So idk, RaZR wouldn't be much of a big trouble in my AU, and it's not like it's gonna be the main thing in the story.

BUT YEAH, About your question:

In my AU, Zim already had a crush on Red since they saw each other again by iniciating Elite training together. However, his feelings were mostly involved by this idealized image of Red being this "infallible", "exemplary", "perfect" soldier. You know: things that Zim wished to be. Thus becoming the reason why Zim always have seeked his approval.

On the other hand, Red was aware of this weird fixation Zim had on him, which was obviously very annoying. Despite this, Red never truly hated him; In fact, he always felt a little pity for the defective lil bug. Red also learned to deal with Zim's destructive shenanigans by taking advantage of that weakness he had over Red. However, this kind of manipulative dynamic made Red accidentally more tolerant and permissive with Zim, behavior that followed Red even after becoming a Tallest.

Then, AU shit happens. Zim has his own development arc with Dib on their adventures in space, but Red also has his own development arc with a number of situations; such as the coming of his adulthood, his responsibilities as a leader, memories of his abusive past becoming relevant in his life again, etc. Both Zim and Red don't see each other again until the events of Arc 4.

At this point, many years have passed and both have changed a lot. And the fact that Red and Purple have no power over Zim makes their dynamics change drastically.

The role reversal made it so that they could see each other as equals. Neither Zim nor Red are trying to like each other, so they both interact as how they truly are. Sure there is tension and hostility between them sometimes, but as they can act as themselves, they start to feel strangely comfortable with each other. And as suddenly as it starts, the curiosity to see how far one can go with the other causes the bickering and teasing to accidentally turn into a very strange and very Irken form of.... flirting??! The funny thing is that neither of them are aware of this until there is no turning back.

But there's something else that's even more relevant about Zim and Red's dynamic: There's a point in the plot where both of them are forced to show their most vulnerable side. With Zim, there's the whole trauma thing that he still carries around and that reaches a limit where he can no longer hide; on Red's part, due to a slip of his own, he was forced to tell Zim about the abusive past he had with Miyuki and how it has affected him in several aspects of his life, including his relationship with Purple. By uncovering their most vulnerable side, both of them maintain a silent truce that turns into mutual respect. Slowly and gradually, both of them start to feel comfortable to vent and share things that they haven't told to anyone, not even their loved ones (Purple and Dib respectively).

It's all a veeeery long process of understanding and trust that is slowly forming and needs some pushes to become stronger. It's very similar to what Zim and Dib had to do to form their friendship, except that Red and Zim feelings are growing beyond to just friendship.

However; even though it's clear that something is changing between these two, they both feel conflicted by these new feelings.

As for Red, he has never experienced romantic feelings before and doesn't know how to act in certain circumstances. This is all new to him and therefore he can't discern whether he is truly falling in love or if he is misinterpreting his feelings. Not to mention that these types of relationships are completely punished by the Irken Empire.

With Zim, he believed that he no longer had feelings for Red and that it would stay that way now that he discovered his true colors. Instead, Zim went from a childhood crush to being genuinely and hopelessly in love with him. However, he can't trust Red's intentions. In fact, he hates that despite all the awful things Red had done to him, he is still madly in love. Zim knows that Red had and will always have control over him, because deep down he has always wanted for Red to want him, and it seems like it will always be that way.

But, despite still being conflicted about his feelings, Red knows that he has stopped seeing Zim in the same way and that he even feels guilty about the things he has done, and he admits that he shouldn't reciprocate Zim's feelings, not because he doesn't want to, but because he knows he doesn't deserve it.

They go through a lot of tense moments and trust issues, but they will eventually talk it out and correspond each other. Not in a conventional way, though. They are still not sure about what they are or should be (although they are already doing what lovers do). Neither of them dares to make it completely official; because deep down they know that sooner or later the day will come when they will both have to go on separate ways, perhaps never to see each other again.

Reblogging this because (1) other people might be interested, and (2) I am so so soooo behind on my fic-reading, and so I thought that something that helps me track my fic-reading and hit ACHIEVEMENTS might help motivate me to do all the catching-up that I want to do.

On the negative side, though, I took a look at the categories of tasks and they are just too many and things I'm largely not interested in tracking (anything content/title-related, including tropes, tags, etc.; also, I'm just generally not interested in stretching or challenging myself to read certain things (e.g. [x] fics with specific word counts), I just want to know what exactly I already AM reading and give myself credit for doing this).

On the plus side, looking at the list and spreadsheets gave me a better idea of what I *am* interested in tracking, which are things like (1) how many fandoms I read, (2) how many words I read (total and broken down by fandom, ship, etc.), (3) how many comments I leave, (4) where am I in each fic (which chapter, word count read so far out of [total]), (5) when I do fic-reading and for how long, and (6) which fics I want to rec. Also, I've already been doing a lot of that TEDIOUSLY and by hand last year, and kept thinking "I need a spreadsheet for this I REALLY SHOULD HAVE MADE A SPREADSHEET FOR THIS" -- and there are some spreadsheets here for this exact purpose! I will probably need to heavily tweak them, but this is definitely helpful for getting a start on all that.

The 2025 Fanfic Reading Challenge

Welcome to another year of the Fanfic Reading Challenge (FRC)!

I won't bore you with the history of the challenge, this year, but I will welcome you to check out past posts that do explain some of it, as well as include a brief overview of what, exactly, this challenge is, though it does change year to year. (Essentially you read fics to complete goals and win bragging points and an artsy badge.)

This year is especially different, as I had the extreme pleasure of having @noxsoulmate as a partner in crime in keeping me hostage on track to completing this year's FRC. Another valued member of the mod team is @jandjsalmon and speaks for all of us if you need questions answered!

As for the challenge....

This is, indeed, a challenge. Of course.

First of all... you must obviously read fanfiction. As if you don't already!

You also need to download and make your own copy of the spreadsheet, which can be found here, as well as below in the important links section.

To participate in the challenge, you read fics that match the tasks in the challenge. An example of a task can be: "read a fic with a title containing the word purple in it." Should be easy! Of course, there are harder ones.

Which is why there are different modes of challenge to the FRC. These are as follows:

Participation (Complete 1 task)

Regular Mode (Complete 80 tasks)

Hard Mode (Complete 150 tasks)

Extreme Mode (Complete 220 tasks)

Complete (Complete 250 tasks)

The challenge lasts from January 1st, 2025, to December 31st, 2025.

There are badges that go with the modes completed, and even a secret 6th badge that will be fairly obvious if you look at the spreadsheet! Doesn't mean it'll be easy to complete though. *smirks* (Blame Noxy)

Most important of all: this challenge operates on the honour system. We don't check your work, or your reading logs (see below), so I mean, I guess if you want to be slippery with the rules, you do you, and that's on your conscience, but honestly it's so much fun to see how much you can get done by following the letter of the law/tasks! You can be slippery even with following the tasks fully. It's great fun. ;D

I think that's enough for an intro, really, maybe too much.

We have a blast on Discord. From general chatter to sharing pet pics to being there for each other during the tough times to forming lasting friendships and making friendships you’d never make in a ship- or fandom-specific Discord, to asking for help ‘rolling the dice’ (pick a number between 1-10!) to choose the next fic to read, to finding some of the really challenging task fills in fandoms people might not have ever read but are willing to try, or finding fandoms someone has never read and is very tentative about stepping out of their box, but they’re being 100% supported and know they don’t need to complete the fic for it to count for the task, stepping out of their comfort zone… we’ve formed a very odd group of, if not friends, then companions (but there are definite friendships that have formed!! Just ask the people who have started watching NHL and NFL together in our off topic channel!).

In any case, our Discord is not necessary, but it is a worthy and tactical element to completing many of the tasks of this challenge. 💙

I (Juulna) did that last year and didn't even come close to completing the entire challenge, and I still had a blast because I was enjoying what I was reading and rereading. Others took the challenge right to the completed end. Others forgot about it halfway through but still had fun, and some even went back and filled in the sheet for a really good showing! The challenge is what you make of it, what you want from it. So... just have fun. Read fic. Smile. Enjoy. :)

Honestly recently coming to terms with that I think this is more straight shipping than I thought it was.

I knew a girl who would talk shit about Byler and the things I loved about the show in general (not friends with her anymore) and she related to El deeply for trauma reasons and that is to be validated of course even in talking about her anonymously but I cannot overlook that one of her defense points in explaining why she didn't like season 4 is that she thought Mike was cute when the show came out when she was a kid.

And I don't see that as loving a relationship. I see that as projecting your trauma (valid asf and what you're supposed to do with trauma rep I'd argue) and projecting your attraction as separate events.

I also find it common that people will project on a character for plenty of valid personal reasons and then just of their own accord in their own lives want romance so use that connection to the character to live vicariously through a romance. But that character doesn't always need romance in their lives, and sometimes it's more important that they DON'T have it, though I understand that can be disappointing. But living vicariously through a character because you understand a different aspect of them and understanding their romantic aspect are not the same things.

For me, I project queer trauma, not attraction. And in my case, that has been written to require their relationship as a unit. But if the show was way longer and could successfully be execute with BOTH OF THEM QUEER and happy, I would be happy. I don't need them to get together, I just need to believe that they're happy. It's the Duffers who made that implausible without each other.

How would the couples (each of them) react to their partners getting kidnapped, and what would happen to the said kidnapper(s)? (I say death)

this is such a good question that will definitely inspire thoughts! warning this is gonna get LONG because i love over explaining things and scenarios so full answer by ship under the cut!

1. Zelda if Green got kidnapped:

Zelda would honestly be the one with her head most on her shoulders if Green were to get kidnapped, because she’s the Queen and she can’t be seen panicking even though she’d be worried sick for him. Considering Green is the future King Consort him being kidnapped would be a pretty big deal and would warrant investigation (and a declaration if war if done by another country). However behind closed doors she’d be losing sleep, crying and praying to the Goddesses that Green is alright, while in the day she works restlessly, wishing she could go out there and look for him herself.

2. Green if Zelda was kidnapped:

Green would be beside himself with worry if Zelda got kidnapped, and of course given Zelda is The Queen the rest of the kingdom would fret with him. If they’re already engaged or married that would leave Green completely in charge of the kingdom, and although he’d take the responsibility in stride it would worry him beyond belief that he can’t go out to rescue her himself like he did once before. It would be extremely hard to get him to rest during this time, and just like with Green depending on who kidnaps her the implications would be just as bad or worse.

3. Red if Blue got kidnapped:

Red wouldn’t be able to believe the news once he receives it, unable to picture Blue in any sort of hostage situation. He’d cry and worry constantly if Blue is doing anything stupid, because he knows his lover isn’t patient and isn’t one to simply follow orders if he doesn’t respect the person, and acting like that while hostage is a quick way to get yourself killed! Red would NOT take no for an answer to joining the search party, and as passive a person as he is he won’t hesitate to go in rods blazing if Blue is in danger!

4. Blue if Red gets kidnapped:

Dealing with a worried Blue is torture to everyone around him, because although he’s worked on his anger management throughout the years he can still explode if dealing with a lot of emotions. And Red being kidnapped… would worry him more than anything. He’d be sending search parties left and right, bordering on overworking his knights, and definitely overworking himself. It would take everyone else sitting him down to get him to slow down, and Blue would break, saying he never wants Red to get hurt, he can’t lose him!

5. Vio if Shadow gets kidnapped:

Shadow being kidnapped would require some special circumstances given his powers, not many people would try to kidnap what is basically an immortal monster. I can picture it being a case that Vaati or Ganon or another big baddie is revived and they use their power to force Shadow under their control. That would piss Vio off, because all Shadow was ever wanted was autonomy, to ve his own person, yet left and right someone who thinks themself so high and mighty wants to use him as a puppet. Vio would be drawing up strategies and theories on how to both defeat whoever took Shadow and to rescue Shadow himself. He would not rest, not while Shadow is captive, it would take many interventions for him to slow down, because “Shadow wouldn’t want you to tear yourself apart like this”.

6. Shadow if Vio got kidnapped:

So Vio being kidnapped is honestly the one that is statistically most likely to happen in the context of my AU given he’s a scout and often goes into enemy territory lmao. What this means however is that if dealing with a worried Blue is bad then dealing with a worried Shadow is worse, because Shadow has powers, his form can shift, if out of control he can cause some real damage and the only way to really stop him physically is to hurt him which no one wants to do. He’d demand to be set free to tear apart whoever took Vio, but its not so simple, thankfully Zelda would hold his hands and let him cry on her shoulder, promising they will all do everything they can to bring Vio home.

As for what happens to the kidnapper that is very situational for most everyone, though Blue, Vio and Shadow would want to kill whoever is responsible. If it’s done by a small individual party Zelda and Green would be forced to give the guilty party a fair trial, if it’s another kingdom altogether well… war basically! Red would want to bring them to justice too, he doesn’t believe in unnecessary violence, but he won’t be nice about it either!

in the Light Novel, Masachika has NEVER asked him about Kanae, never teased him about Kanae, never asked him anything about Kanae😭😭 that one illustration was taken soooo out of context and it can have many possibilities and none of them is inherently romantic

friendly little reminder for the Fandom that Sanemi blushed once because of Masachika.

he got out of the mansion after getting treatment by Kanae (and after actively comparing her touch to his mother's...to which he luckily did NOT blush btw) and he saw Masachika there waiting for him, and he suddenly got "dizzy" and then Masa approaches him and asks him why he's red😭😭 he realized, just like Kanae told him earlier, that Masachika cared about him and saw him as a kind person,,, and he must've been really flustered/embarrassed.

so that illustration either refers to that, since Novels' illustrations always have context in the text itself, or it's the lighthearted teasing about romance in general and maybe Masachika might've mentioned Kanae off-screen as an example just to make it more embarrassing given the fact they both knew her personally

and there could be more interpretations, but in either case, Sanemi only blushed out of embarrassment 😭 that's a teenage tsundere right there, it was funny to see and there's nothing really deep in it

so at last, we don't even know if Sanemi liked her or was just fond of her calming presence, but Kanae sure as hell didn't show any signs of liking him more than a stubborn and impulsive acquaintance or friend at best🖐🏻

Gyomei isn't omniscient, he speculates and that's it... ObaMitsu is entirely different from SaneKana for lots of reasons, one of which is that they were obvious from the start and even Muichiro noticed Obanai liked her ...tbf the only mf that didn't notice was Sanemi, given the fact he's canonically dense to romance other than canonically uninterested; which is why, even if he had a tiny teenage crush it was absolutely meaningless as we clearly saw; the rest is pure misinformation that some toxic shippers had spread around getting advantage of the fact that so many people in this Fandom are 1) children 2) illiterate 3) delusional 4) naive 5) all (or some) of the above

ohhh and don't get me started about GiyuShino shippers and how delusional they can be, no wonder that SaneKana shippers are usually GiyuShino shippers as well😭😭😭 no hate to the nice shippers of both, but y'all are rare. I especially don't mind GiyuShino because at least there are some interactions and potential, if we ignore 90% of Shinobu's character arc, that is... I love Shinobu too dearly to pair her up with a male sorry, but GiyuShino isn't as bad as SaneKana imo, I used to ship it too before reading the manga and other canon media and now I see both GiyuShino and SaneKana as besties..their platonic counterparts are just peak

"Poor sanemi he lost his mother, genya, his other siblings, masachika and kanae" what does kanae even contribute to his character at all??? I saw a person get jumped by ppl on twitter cuz they mentioned how she is not important to sanemi's character at all and shit I agree; she literally did nothing to be even considered important to him, sanemi doesn't even have some special dialogue abt her or anything

Columbo and the Knight (1984)

put me in the universe where Columbo ran through the 1980s and had a crossover episode with Knight Rider. I think they deserved it, and I am not just saying that because they're my two favorite Old Shows. @telebeast wrote a little fanfic blurb about it and I HAD to visualize it into a comic (which is also the longest comic I have finished thus far at five pages...), so writing credit goes to them.

Say hello to the next member of the Gob-Squad:

It's Jinki, AKA 'Jingles'.

She's the smallest of the lot, at a teeny 2'10". It's thought that there was a member of her lineage who true polymorphed from a gnome into a Goblin in order to be with their beloved. No idea how true it is, but her mum's side of the family are all travelling minstrels/acrobats, and her Dad is an Ixelan (Ship Fairing) goblin.

Jingles is a Dance Bard primarily, and has a few levels in Ranger so she can snipe from the back lines. She doesn't really do much up-front combat, but if she needs to, she's good with knives, and that big bell on her tail is solid Mithril. She uses it like a tail club, utilising the prehensile tail strength she inherited from her dad.

When she was little, it was difficult for her parents to keep a track of her on the ship while her dad was working, so they put a bell on her as a joke. Except they couldn't get it off her again, because she loved it.

Jinki ALWAYS wears bells now, she loves to tinkle and chime, her aesthetic is always EXTREMELY femme. Wears soft green almost Lolita style fairy dresses with 3/4 tights underneath almost exclusively, shops mostly int he halfling children's section, and carries either a white pearlescent bubble purse of holding, or her rainbow-pearlescent acrylic backpack of holding. She loves accessorising, but things that make noise are always her favourite. She can, however, pass entirely silently if she wants to, having taken a level or two in Rogue so she can walk without the bells making any noise.

She also carries around custom slingshot ammo she makes that she calls 'Glitter Bombs' (likes to hit 'em with the old SPICY RAZZLE DAZZLE). They are made from crushed up glass and chilli powder, and she launches them into enemy faces as a distraction tactic. Her other main weapon is a pink crossbow with lots of stickers on it.

She's very nice and polite and likes to help people where possible. There have been rumours about her that someone cursed a gnome to turn them into a Goblin, but she usually laughs it off, because if she was going to be anything other than a Goblin, it would be a fairy, OBVIOUSLY.

So, This guy is the product of @dullgecko and I throwing around fucking Fantasy High College AU shit.

This guy was a nothingburger background goblin who accidentally grew a personality and then before we knew it, we had a fully fleshed out character on our hands.

So this is Dex, he goes to Riz's university and is the Goblin Riz becomes most friendly with (Out of the like... 6 or 7 that go there in various different classes). More details under the cut for those who want them:

This guy hails from the Mountains of Chaos, from a Goblin clan known as being cave divers/fishers, but he spent a fair amount of his schooling at a coastal town of Solace.

He's pretty gangly for a Goblin, his family is fairly sure they have a fair bit of hobgoblin blood, but no clear idea how far back. They're all pretty chill, they have to be to dive caves safely, and the amount of time they have been doing it means that he has inherited traits like retractable partial webbing in his hands and feet, and a flattened paddle shape to his tail tuft. He also has long, dextrous fingers and toes, and double fangs for cracking through crustacean shells and tough fish scales.

Primarily a Druid, he got into a few levels of Barbarian in high school when it became apparent he had a chill limit, and when pushed past it, his frenzies were pretty incredible. He uses his longboard (Dwarvish made) as a bludgeoning weapon. He can also wild-shape and likes to do water creatures the most, so occasionally if he's been drinking you might see a starfish riding around on a longboard on campus.

He also frosts his tips with a bioluminescent algae he cultivates from home, and will give anyone who asks a stick-and-poke tattoo. He knows most Goblin clan's traditional tats, as well as many Orcish and Genasi designs. He speaks Common, Goblin, Orcish and is conversational in Genasi.

His personality for the most part is extremely chill. He walks everywhere barefoot, and will poke holes in shoes if he's forced to wear them so that his toes and the balls of his feet can still touch the ground. Doesn't think much of hierarchies, considers everyone equal and doesn't really gel with authority figures trying to assert control.

Community is very important to him, he is the social glue in any given situation and is extremely good at de-escalation. Either by talking people down, or beating the aggressor into submission when absolutely necessary.

If he wasn't training into adventuring, he would probably be either a surf/skate/diving instructor, or a psychologist (or just both). As it is, he likes to get out in the world and meet new people, very much a wanderer, just in it for the journey and the people. He doesn't have a specific party, he likes to hop parties to experience new dynamics and people.

He might settle down if he finds a group he super jives with, but for now he's interested in advancing his skills (and getting Riz to fucking relax like holy shit this is the most wound up wired guy he's ever met... but to be fair the hyper-competence is legit, and he is forever offering Riz some of his best gorgonfern to smooth his edges).

I was rewatching mouthwashing, and I ended up thinking of the different reactions that Curly and Jimmy had in doing their tasks. How during the scene of Anya evaluating Jimmy and showing dread towards the idea of doing his evaluation, Curly was the one that offered to take it off her hands. He had no issue with adding more to his plate, because he knew - or well, thought, he knew that Jimmy wasn't going to "bullshit" with him since he's known him for a long time. When Anya hands Curly a note from Swansea, Curly goes to check out what the issue is and he takes care of it without a complaint, the only "complaint" he has is how this incident could have damaged the pods. Which is reasonable, those pods are their only way to be saved if anything tragic happens on the ship. However, in comparison to Jimmy being asked to do things, he's passive-aggressive about it. When Anya asks Jimmy if he could help her out with Curly's painkillers, he tells her that people should be worth their titles, specifically using her title as a nurse when she asked him for help and then when she says forget it, since he made her feel insecure, he still goes "Oh no, I'LL take care of it" as if he was doing a chore, a favor for her. Then, there's that part where he blows up at her for things that she didn't even ask him to do - more so the others asked him about it, like the code scanner, him deciding he needed to find the axe for the foam, and then, there's the medicine part (which when she does ask, and she reconsiders - going to do it herself, he takes that away from her). Jimmy complains about the tasks he has to do and he treats it like a big issue, a "woes me" that he has to do this and that - wanting the praise of the capital without actually doing any work. While Curly doesn't complain about it, in fact, he even mentions that he's aware of how well he is doing at his job as a Captain during that cockpit scene with him and Jimmy. If Jimmy only had to do a small amount of tasks to get irritated and annoyed at being captain, while Curly didn't which I feel like encapsulates their personalities. Curly understands what he's doing is a job, it's a responsibility, why would he complain at any point for doing what he's suppose too? Why would he be upset at people asking him to do tasks? While Jimmy on the other hand, isn't used to it at all and it's different to what he's had before and he's realizing that he doesn't actually like doing the work he has too. I just wanted to ramble about it even if it seemed kind of obvious xd

It’s obvious but it is a thing people miss or understate when trying to find parallels in Curly’s and Jimmy’s relationship/personalities.

Like the way people portray it as neither taking responsibility when it is almost split down the middle of Curly taking responsibilities and faults that shouldn’t be his and making himself unequipped to handle the ones that are while Jimmy refuses to handle the responsibilities he has because he wasn’t expecting the work that comes with them.

Not a lot to say but people forget that another thing the game comments on is prioritization of issues and responsibilities and how the guys fail at it in one way or another in the situation.
